Yeah, I know, you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired of this Coronavirus quarantine and its 24/7 news intrusion into your formerly relatively peaceful and well-ordered world. So, the last thing you want to see is yet more blather and another opinion along the same lines.

But, bear with me for a moment. Yes, streets and interstates are refreshingly less clogged. You can go from here to there with much less hassle than before this “new normal.” That’s a good thing. Or is it?

As with most things in life, there’s a downside to less traffic. People are taking advantage of more open thoroughfares by traveling at higher speeds, just because they can. Ironically, according to latest statistics, due to increased speeding, auto accidents are beginning to trend upward toward where they were before our current pandemic struck.

We appreciate and have grown accustomed to “Zoom” meetings while social distancing. Really, it’s been a lifesaver for several reasons, not the least of which is its affording continued human contact, if only remotely.

But the kind of zoom you don’t want is that which may lead to injury or even death due to increased speeds on our highways.

Be careful!
