Many mechanics and consumers believe that cars with automatic breaking systems are more likely to prevent accidents. The rationale behind this theory suggests that cars with the system will stop quicker, thus preventing a car accident from occurring. However, is it actually true that a more intricate breaking system leads to fewer accidents?

Throughout the years, car companies have developed a multitude of safety precautions to prevent or minimize the likelihood of a deadly accident. One of these precautions, the automatic breaking system, has been advertised to prevent accidents, especially on highways and roads with high speed limits. These systems utilize high-tech cameras and other machinery to determine if a car or other obstacle is in the road. When detecting the obstacle, the car should in theory slow down or stop automatically. This complicated internal system will be installed in most new cars by 2023.

Although in theory these systems are designed to improve highway safety, many legal professionals suggest that consumers do not fully understand their true limitations. After several studies and tests, many organizations have claimed that these systems do not always prevent car crashes. For example, the American Automobile Association (AAA) suggests that many of these systems were not created to necessarily prevent an accident from occurring. Instead, many of these systems were designed to minimize the lasting impact when an accident does occur.

Many other legal professionals purport that these systems merely lead to less damage to the car or minimal injuries to the driver or passengers upon impact. Other systems were designed to slow the car down, not necessarily stop it instantly. And those that are actually designed to stop do not always recognize many obstacles in the road. Some may be able to sense a large truck or a passenger car but may become confused if a person or animal runs into the road.

So should you purchase a car with an automatic breaking system? All consumers should at least investigate the cars that offer this system and read up on all of products that are offered. Like any car product, there are some systems that are of higher quality than others. In places like Tennessee and in other parts of the South, drivers can move from a rural area to a city in a matter of minutes. A self-driving car may accurately detect objects in the road in the country but may miss some in an active city like Memphis or Nashville. However, technology changes everyday and automatic breaking system may become more reliable and accurate in time.

Ultimately, there are many factors, such as weather or speeding that also contribute to accidents. Drivers should continue to take proper precautions to prevent an accident from occurring. Drivers should also realize that even though they may have an automatic breaking system, it does not mean that their car will stop in time. So, ultimately a driver should rely on his or her own instincts to prevent an accident from occurring. This means that everyone should continue to monitor the road, stay alert and drive defensively to prevent car accidents.
